About the Project

Client: Port of Kalama
Use: Commercial, and light industrial
Type: New construction
Size: 42,269 square feet

New light industrial building to support the Port of Kalama’s long range economic development plan at the Port’s Spencer Creek property. The building shell and structural system are steel framed with heavy timber significant canopies. The design team draws references from the Port’s rich timber, rail, and sea in support of expanding local industries.

The building is the first phase of a larger master plan that includes Office/flex space, light industrial, commercial/retail, hotel, convenience store and dining options. The design team incorporated vehicle circulation including tractor-trailer delivery into the design.

The City of Kalama and Port of Kalama together earned the prestigious 2014 Governor’s Smart Communities Award for their collaboration on planning the multi-use business property which is expected to boost the region’s available commercial property, economy and job opportunities while strengthening the city’s revenue base.
