Trinity Lutheran Independent School

About the Project

Client: Civil & Environmental Consultants
Use: Transfer station
Type: New construction
Size: 34,800 square feet
Contractor: Kirby Nagelhout

Deschutes Solid Waste is upgrading its waste transfer station serving the City of Redmond to improve operational efficiency and customer experience. The project team created a site plan and completed Phase 1 to accommodate Deschutes County’s current and future waste collection and sorting needs. The plan allows for completion of each phase without interrupting operations.

The new facilities include a 34,800-square-foot waste transfer building with floor-level disposal and recessed truck load outs. An attached 2,200-square-foot office provides for staff meetings, administrative support of the operations, and breakroom space. The design team coordinated an early procurement of the pre-engineered metal building before bidding to assist with structure coordination. The building was delivered early, which reduced the schedule by two months.

The design team also provided planning for a future 2,500-square-foot vehicle/equipment maintenance building and 3,700-square-foot recycling center loadout building with an attached 1,200-square-foot office. Careful site circulation planning was critical to ensure operational efficiency and safety for the public, as well as franchise waste disposal companies, which access the site.
